Everton are not concerned about a Premier League points deduction over sustainability rules despite an article claiming they risked doing so

Everton remain comfortable that they are not facing a Premier League points deduction over their finances.

An article published bythe Daily Mailclaimed thatEvertonrisked a points deduction and are preparing to negotiate with the Premier League over their financial accounts amid fears they could become the first club to breach the top-flights profit and sustainability rules.

However, the ECHO understands the Blues are not concerned about the prospect of a points deduction and have been collaboarative with the games authorities, dealing closely with the Premier League over all their transfer activity for several years now.

This includes the deals that new managerFrank Lampardconducted during the January transfer window when the club sought advice from the Premier League and were given assurances that they were operating within the sustainability guidelines.

Any potential sanctions would be a Premier League matter but Everton believe they are compliant and continue to be compliant.

Everton were aware that they had been operating close to the limits allowed by Financial Fair Play and cut their cloth accordingly in terms of a modest transfer outlay last summer.

The article states that the club were due to publish their accounts for the 2020/21 season last December, but publication has been delayed as they seek clarification from the Premier League over how much of their losses can be offset due to the impact of Covid.

However, other factors can also be considered for offsetting losses such as the building ofa new stadium a project on which Everton are currently embarking on with the club set to move toBramley-Moore Dockin 2024 - as well as investment in the womens team and the academy, and the club believe nothing contained in their figures for the 2021 financial year should come as a surprise to the Premier League.

Claims that cutting financial ties with sponsor Alisher Usmanov, a former long-time business associate of ownerFarhad Moshiricould cost the club around 300million are also believed to be wide of the mark.
